Sarah Causton, MSW, RSW

Individual & Family Counsellor

Welcome

As a registered social worker since 2006, I have been privileged to work with people of many different backgrounds on a wide range of concerns. I take the time to really hear my clients’ stories, while drawing out their unique strengths and experiences. I then work with them to create a plan to address the areas that are troubling them or causing pain.

Over the years, it has been my experience that people often have a sense of what they need to do, or change, and in the safety of a skilled, compassionate and non-judgmental relationship they can explore this.

I understand that counselling is not a one size fits all service and it requires a good fit between counsellor and client. If you are interested, I would encourage you to set up a free initial phone consultation with me so that we can discuss your needs and my areas of practice.

I look forward to getting to know you better.

About Me

I grew up in Victoria before spending a number of years in Ontario. I graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree in Psychology and received a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Carleton University in 2006.

After spending a year in the addiction field in Ottawa and four years in adolescent mental health in Toronto, I moved back to Victoria. Most recently I spent two years working at Family Services of Greater Victoria providing counselling to children, teens and adults on a wide range of issues including separation and divorce, anxiety, depression, self-harm and trauma. I also provided parenting support.

I am experienced in using a number of directive and non-directive approaches, including narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solutions focussed, mindfulness and attachment based counselling. I do not have one go-to approach but rather work to develop a relationship with my clients and then figure out what will work best for them.
